Royalty Calculations and Distributions

At Readers Meet, we pay 70% of the net royalty to the author.

The amount of money that an author gets varies with the way the buyer chooses to buy his product. There are three main ways in which we sell books.

  1. From Readers Meet Website.
  2. From Ecommerce Websites (Amazon, Flipkart, etc.).
  3. From Book Stores

Here we are explaining how the net profit varies with these distribution channels.

1. From Readers Meet Website: Net Royalty = 70% of (Selling Price – (Production Cost + Packaging Cost)*GST as applicable)
For Example: If you have a book of 200 pages, the Production Cost will be around 70 INR for Paperback and the Packaging Cost will be around 8 INR.
If we decide to sell your book at MRP 250 INR, the royalty you will get after sale of each book is:
Net Royalty = 70% of (250 – (70+8)) = 120 INR
2. From Ecommerce Websites (Amazon, Flipkart, etc.)
Ecommerce website like Amazon charges around 40% of MRP as their service charges.
So the royalty you will be getting will be calculated as:
Net Royalty = 70% of (Selling Price – (Production Cost + Service Charges)*GST as applicable)
If the MRP of your book is 250 INR, the service charges for Amazon will be around 100 INR.
So the royalty you will be getting on each sale is: Net Royalty = 70% of (250 – (70+100)) = 56 INR

3.From Book Stores:
We have to give around 40% margin to book stores.
So the royalty you will be getting will be calculated as:
Net Royalty = 70% of (Selling Price to Book Stores – (Production Cost) *GST as applicable
If we decide 250 INR as the MRP of the book, we will have to sell it at around 150
INR to the Book Stores.
So the net royalty you will be getting will be:
Net Royalty = 70% of (150 – 70) = 56 INR

We will have a transparent process regarding the royalties throughout every sale of your book.
We know that most of the competitors give 100% royalties to their authors, but all they do is publish your book and leave you alone to sell your book. We keep 30% of royalty with us because we want to sell your book alongside you and trust us the real work starts when your book hits the shelves and you will need a partner who will be always with you to get through the difficult phase.

Lenient Revision Policy

As an author, you dedicate all your efforts to make the book error-free. At Readers Meet, we also aim to deliver the best work to the audience. But, it is also tough to match the expectations the first time. We believe that to err is human and that for such instance we have the revision policy. The first few revisions will be accepted without any charges.
Under this policy, you are allowed to make revisions (which will be limited according to the package).

Publication Process at Readers Meet

The Publications process at Readers Meet can be described in 8 simple steps:
1. Agreement: The author will receive an agreement/contract from our end. The same has to be signed and submitted back to us. By signing the contract, the author agrees to the terms and conditions and wishes to work with Readers Meet.
2. Welcome Kit: After signing the contract, you will receive a welcome letter from Readers Meet and your project will be listed in our database. Followed by this, our team will share other emails collecting information of the author required in the process. Later, you will be asked to share the manuscript and share 50% of the payment (amount mentioned in the contract).
3. Registering for ISBN: ISBN is the unique identity of your book. As part of the process, we apply for the ISBN to the Government and you receive the 13-digit unique id of your book. However, note that the time required in this process is not subjective to our control.
4. Mending the errors in Manuscript: This process is varied depending upon the type of your package,
  • If the package includes Editing and Proofreading, your manuscript is sent to the editor. The time required in this process can differ depending on the length of the manuscript, errors, and mistakes, etc. after rectifying these edits the file is sent for typesetting.
  • If the package does not include Editing and Proofreading, the team will quickly glance through any visible errors and directly share the file for typesetting.
In typesetting, your manuscript is adjusted to design the interior of the book. This digital copy/PDF is shared with the author for approval. If there are any changes or suggestions the following are made, and once we receive the approval the file is locked, and further, no changes can be made. Though the revision policy allows a fair amount of changes, it is advised you first approve the copy before it is sent out for print.
5. E-book Generated: After the typeset file is approved, we move forward to create an e-book to maintain uniformity with the typeset file. An E-book is different from a typeset file and will be shared again for review. The author’s suggestions and review are welcomed however, the decision to work upon those changes will be dependent on our discretion.
6. Finalizing the Book Cover: Book cover is also finalized in this step. The author will dictate a general idea to our team of designers and depending on that narrative a Cover will be illustrated. This design is also first sent for approval and suggestions are welcome. However, once we receive the approval, the cover is locked and no further changes can be made. The revision policy allows you to suggest revisions, but it is advised you first approve the copy before it is sent out for print
7. Payment of Outstanding amount: After receiving the approval on the typeset file and book cover, the author will pay the rest 50% of the amount outstanding. On receiving the payment, the book is set out for print.
8. Transportation and Shipping of Author copy: The whole printing process and further transportation and shipping process may take 20 days (8-10 days to get printed and 7-8 days for shipping~ actual time may differ). Once we receive the printed copy, our team inspects the quality of the copy, and only after ensuring that the quality is up to standard, we deliver it to the author for further inspection. The author copy takes 42-72 hours to dispatch, after our inspection.
Once we receive approval from the author, a mutual date is decided for the book launch. Thus, concluding the publication process.
Hereafter, the royalty is generated and paid to the author on monthly basis.
